Submit to Homoground’s Feminist Playing Cards' Call-for-Art!
We’re looking for talented female-identified artists to illustrate their feminist musician heroes for the 2015 deck! And the gig pays, hayyyyyy.
Need something to get ya started? Check out Chavela Vargas. The mother of butch dykes, Vargas mostly sang rancheras, which were the only excuse Mexican men had to publicly sing about love in the face of machismo ideals. Vargas took to the form and its masculine culture with huge success, donning pants, smoking cigars, and openly hitting on men’s wives. She lived to the ripe old age of 93, performing and recording until she passed away in 2012.
(and that’s her with Frida)
This is a great project that I have the pleasure of helping with. Spread the word! Be passionate, draw lady musicians, and make $ for it!
